SSE22 was founded by Thomas Hitzlsperger, Joachim Hilke, Bernhard Peters, Finn Meinecke, Jan Peters and Ole Jan Kappmeier with the vision of leading a club to sustainable success on and off the pitch through responsible management, sporting expertise and systematic talent development.
In 2023, SSE22 acquired a minority stake of 20.13% in Aalborg BK, a long-established Danish football club. This was followed by the acquisition of a majority stake (51%) in June 2024, shortly after the club was promoted to the 3F Superliga.
